About Us

Our Organisation

Hope and Light – Community Welfare was established in 2003 by Barbara Tofaute with the aim of supporting needy children in Sir Lowry’s Pass (South Africa) by providing broad, sustained improvement in their educational opportunities through Kindergarten and School Sponsorships. Hope and Light was registered in 2004.

In January 2005 Hope and Light Germany was registered as a non-profit-organization with the German authorities on the initiative of Mr. Alfons Schwickert. He chaired the organization over a period of more than 10 years. As from 1 April 2016 Mr. Rainer Winge took over the chair of the Welfare Organization, which has been registered in South Africa as well as in Germany and the United Kingdom.

In 2009 Hope and Light was launched in England. Mrs. Dianne and Mr. Paul Cruickshank are the founder and chairmen.

Our Goals

Through our various projects we are trying to ensure that the children in South Africa grow up in a society free from misery, abuse and violence. We hope to empower them to overcome poverty and prejudice and to achieve an independent, successful adulthood. Our future “Children’s Village” will particularly seek to help children exposed to disadvantages additional to economic poverty, such as sexually abused and abandoned children.
